Happy Chrisma-Hanu-Kwanza-Rama-Krishna Oh, December is a joyous time in the old USA Everybody celebrates in their own special way In New York it’s difficult to know just what to say To your neighbor, cabbie, grocer, stranger, waiting for the train Happy Chrisma-Hanu-Kwanzaa-Rama-Krishna! I’m pretty sure that covers every base Happy Chrisma-Hanu-Kwanzaa-Rama-Krishna! It’s hard to tell by looking at your face Happy Chrisma-Hanu-Kwanzaa-Rama-Krishna! I hope you’re feeling merry, maybe gay Happy Chrisma-Hanu-Kwanzaa-Rama-Krishna! Simply put – happy holidays! Oh, Christmas is for Christians and Hanukkah’s for Jews Those of African ancestry may celebrate Kwaanza too Muslims observe Ramadan, sometimes that’s in December Hindus have Krishna Jamestami… but when that is I can’t remember Happy Chrisma-Hanu-Kwanzaa-Rama-Krishna! Letters to Santa Monica I'm writing letters to Santa Monica I’m asking for the snow to cease This bitter cold has gotten old I never should have moved out east I'm writing letters to Santa Monica I'm asking for some SoCal sun The cold is bizarre, I can't start my car I miss the traffic on the 101 Chorus Santa Monica, how I hate to miss you, You’re leaving me cold, please don’t make me dis’ you But it’s like you’re not there, you don’t even care Who reads these Letters to Santa Monica I'm writing letters to Santa Monica As I slosh through the slush like a fool While a world away, my friends surf through the waves On another perfect afternoon I'm writing letters to Santa Monica I intend to deliver by hand I've done my time in this Eastern clime I'm dreaming of the surf and sand Santa Monica, how I hate to miss you, You’re leaving me cold, please don’t make me dis’ you But it’s like you’re not there, you don’t even care Who reads these Letters to Santa Monica Winter in New York is enchanting There are many who claim it's the best But I can’t help recanting ‘Cause I'm dreaming of a Christmas out West Santa Monica, how I hate to miss you You’re leaving me cold, please don’t make me dis’ you But it’s like you’re not there, you don’t even care I froze to the bone, you've got snow in a cone Maybe I should celebrate Hanukkah Who reads these Letters to Santa Who reads these Letters to Santa Who reads these Letters to Santa Monica

Christmas in Space All the ornaments Are floating by They won’t stay on the tree It’s hard to serve A Christmas ham In zero gravity Christmas in space Christmas in space There’s eggnog on your face But the rocket is warm And the cabin’s got charm It’s a cozy Christmas in space All the mistletoe Floats everywhere It’s always over your head So the astronauts They hug and kiss While they’re strapped into their beds Christmas in space Christmas in space There’s eggnog on your face But the rocket is warm And the cabin’s got charm It’s a cozy Christmas in space Intruder alert The blast doors close An alarm, but what is the cause Parked outside A great sleigh-ship Why, it’s only Santa Clause

about

“Happy Chrisma-Hanna-Kwanza-Rama-Krishna” first appeared on a collection of original holiday songs produced by the "epic barnyard folk" band Baltrop, Alabama — “A Very Balthrop Christmas.”

The New Yorker glowingly reviewed the album. Of “Happy Chrisma-Hanna-Kwanza-Rama-Krishna,” they write, “funny and practical, it offers up a universal holiday greeting for New York’s polyglot population.” It’s an multi-faith, cross-cultural, mixed-marriage song for friends and neighbors coexisting happily in the glorious melting pot of the USA.

“Letters to Santa Monica” is Vladeck's answer to Irving Berlin’s “White Christmas,” a yearning for the California sun while knee-deep in New York slush. Vladeck teamed up with End Up Records (endup.org) labelmates’ rollicking folk collective Balthrop, Alabama (balthropalabama.com) to record this song in 2012.

"Christmas in Space" imagines astronauts celebrating the Yuletide from the International Space Station. Just some goofing around in the home studio. I mean OUTER SPAAAACE.

As always the bandmember-artist (and illustrator-in-residence at Joe’s Pub) Michael Arthur draws spontaneous ink-based pieces (typically projected overhead for the audience to see) as the band plays. He has created the cover illustrations.
